Directions

  1. From Drumlin Trails Bike Hire proceed towards Glaslough village. Turn left taking the Tynan route just past the the old GNR rail signal box. About 150 metres on your left is San Salvador graveyard and Lych gate.
  2. As you proceed along this road the Famine wall will be to your right.
  3. Proceed forward past 2 left junctions and behind the next gate entrance to Castle Leslie you will find a Gothic style gate lodge.
  4. Continue along this road until the demesne wall begins to veer back from the roadside to your right. Not too far distant along this road the Caledon estate wall comes into view on your left. Here you are on the verge of 3 counties.
  5. At this point also but out of view are the remains of the Bone house erected on the opposite side of the Blackwater river.
  6. Going forward along this route as the Caledon wall veers left at a left hand bend your will see the back entrance to the Tynan abbey estate on the right with a dilapidated gate house at the entrance.
  7. Proceed onwards until you arrive at a long bridge after which you meet the Caledon/Middletown road (Coolkill Rd). From this point proceed straight across the road and up the hill towards Tynan village.
  8. On return to the Middletown/Caledon road turn right in the direction of Caledon where you will shortly see Tynan corn mill on your left hand side and you may be able to catch a glimpse of Tynan GNR rail station on the opposite hillside.
  9. Turning right at the red bricked house for Caledon you will see the entrance to the Caledon Estate on your left before approaching the village.
  10. 1All your points of interest about Caledon are accessible from the centre of the town. Good place for a snack to eat.
  11. Turning left at Allens store in the direction of Aughnacloy take the first turn left onto the Annaghroe Road which will lead you to Annaghroe Bridge spanning the Blackwater river.
  12. After passing under the next old GNR railway bridge turn right and you are heading back towards base again.

  8. Tynan corn mill and on hillside opposite tynan GNR station.
  9. Caledon Estate.
  10. Caledon village/ Allens occasional furniture/Rose Café/ The Beam-Engine-House remnants of the old Wollen Mills.
  11. Bridge over the Blackwater river.
  12. Disused overhead GNR railway bridge.
